                            National Education Day celebrated with national spirit at Jamia

The Department of Political Science and B.A. Programme, Faculty of Social Sciences of Jamia Millia Islamia organized a series of events during ’National Education Day’ on 11th November 2019, the Birth Anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, great freedom fighter, eminent educationalist and the first Union Minister of Education. The event was a culmination of three activities  debate competition, a lecture and movie screening. 

The event started with debate competition at 12:30 pm. The topic of the debate was ‘Challenges To Higher Education in India’ There were four teams Ministry of Human Resources Development, University Grants Commission (UGC), Civil Society and inter university union. All the four teams were provided with situations to debate for and against the ‘Privatisation of Education System’. 

The second part of the event consisted of a lecture by Dr. Harpreet Kaur Jass from Department of Educational Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia. She spoke on ‘New Education Policy: Implications for Idea of Higher Education’. She analysed critically the new policy in place and discussed its implications. 

 

In the third part of the event, the Hindi movie was screened ‘Hichki’, which ended around 5:30 pm. The central theme of the event was to create awareness about the education system of India, its institutions, functions and the core value and constructive criticism necessary to improve and make changes.  Thirty five students attended the lecture in the Seminar room of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Jamia Millia Islamia on 11th November 2019.
