About Dr. Zakir Husain Library:
Dr. Zakir Husain Library, established in 1920, is the central library of Jamia Millia Islamia, India's premier higher education institution. The library is named after Dr. Zakir Husain, a former President of India and Vice-Chancellor of JMI. Dr. Husain was a well-known scholar and educator, and this renaming was a tribute to his contributions to education and his association with JMI. During this period, the library's collection began to grow more rapidly, incorporating a wider range of subjects and acquiring rare and valuable manuscripts. It is a beacon of knowledge and learning. It serves as a vital resource center, primarily focusing on the disciplines of social sciences, humanities, sciences, and Islamic studies. The Dr. Zakir Husain Central Library, spread over an area of 1 lakh square feet and housed in an independent four-story building, is one of the most richly equipped university libraries in the country, boasting a total collection of nearly 4 lakh books, bound volumes of journals, manuscripts, rare books, and a globally acclaimed oriental collection. Fully automated, the library extensively utilizes modern technologies to deliver its services. The collection is searchable through an online catalog. Providing both on- and off-campus access to over 7500 full-text e-journals, corporate, financial, statistical, and citation analysis databases, and a large number of e-books. The library provides a peaceful, serene, and conducive environment for students, researchers, scholars, and faculty members to access a huge variety of learning resources throughout the year.
