Vision And Mission
The Department of Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, stands as a premier institution in electrical engineering education and research, recognized nationally and internationally. Established in 1985, the department has evolved significantly, driven by a commitment to excellence and innovation. It is both a SAP department of the UGC and a FIST-supported department.
The department offers a comprehensive suite of programs, including a four-year B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering and specialized M.Tech. programs: Electrical Power Systems Management (EPSM), established in 2003-04, and Control and Instrumentation Systems (CIS), introduced in 2012. In 2024, the department expanded its offerings with a new B.Tech. program in Electrical and Computer Engineering, reflecting its dedication to integrating emerging technologies with traditional electrical engineering principles.
Our Ph.D. program, highly competitive and admission-based on national entrance exams, spans seven major research areas: Power Systems, Power Electronics and Electrical Machines, Control and Instrumentation, Computer Science & Technology, Electronics & Communication, Biomedical Engineering, and Medical Sciences & Technology. The department has awarded over 150 Ph.D. degrees and maintains an impressive h-index of 57, showcasing its robust research output.
Nationally and internationally, the department is distinguished by its accomplished alumni, impactful research publications, and active involvement of faculty members as invited speakers, delegates, subject experts, journal reviewers, and members of expert committees. Faculty members are dedicated to achieving research excellence, securing significant research grants from esteemed agencies such as DRDO, DST, AICTE, MHRD, MNRE, UGC, DOE, and BARC. Their contributions have been recognized with prestigious awards, and the department is also a recognized QIP center in engineering.
The department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and experimental setups, including the Smart Energy Systems Automation Research Laboratory, Biomedical Research Laboratory, Instrumentation System Research Laboratory, Advanced Power Electronics Research Laboratory, and SCADA and Smart Grid RTDS Research Laboratory. These facilities support advanced research and practical learning.
Our graduate and post-graduate students are highly sought after, finding employment in leading government, public, and private organizations through campus placements and national recruitment processes. Many also pursue further studies or employment opportunities abroad. Beyond academics, students have numerous avenues to develop their creativity, cultural awareness, and entrepreneurial skills.
The Department of Electrical Engineering is committed to continuous growth as a socially responsible, research-oriented center of learning, dedicated to shaping the future of engineering through innovation, excellence, and a global perspective.
